About Cosmetic Dentistry

The smile is the main responsible for the aesthetics of the face. The attractive smile makes the individual more confident.

Dentistry has proven to be very competent and offers fantastic solutions for the aesthetics of the mouth. We at the Centro de Odontologia Integrada Simone Carrara work masterfully to achieve these solutions.

Our approach is conservative. Careful planning takes into account the patient’s oral health. The goal is to achieve fabulous results without damaging the masticatory system. A rational treatment plan eliminates future regrets and maintains the highest level of patient satisfaction. We are in line with the current philosophy in the health area of using minimally invasive practices and with the concept of conscious consumption.

Advances in aesthetic dentistry techniques and materials allow for beautiful smile transformations even with little or no tooth wear. It is important for the patient to inform himself in advance about the professional’s proposal and thus achieve his dream without any risk.

In pursuit of this achievement, some treatment modalities are available:

Aesthetic Veneers / Contact Lenses

Delicate blades that are sculpted to cover the outer face of the teeth and give harmony to the smile. They are indicated to repair fractured, stained teeth, with discrepancy in shape, size, misaligned or spaced. They can be direct or indirect.

Direct veneers are carved from composite resin, directly onto the teeth. They do away with the wear of tooth enamel and give a very natural look to the work. They are widely used in our clinic because it is the most conservative resource among all aesthetic procedures. They require a lot of skill from the professional, but our team prepared very well to carry out this task.

Indirect veneers are made of porcelain in the prosthesis laboratory. The teeth are prepared and molded so that the laboratory technician can carry out the artwork directly on the model. The technicians chosen by the Centro de Odontologia Simone Carrara are certainly among the most celebrated in the world. The result is impeccable and very natural because it goes beyond the conquest of color and proportion, the smile begins to express contentment.

Whitening

Widely used aesthetic solution. The whitening agent is nascent oxygen, which is released from the peroxide gel applied to the surface of the teeth. It is a very safe, effective and long-lasting method. The technique has proven to be increasingly comfortable, fast, and transient sensitivity has been less and less reported.

It is essential that this procedure be carried out by a dental surgeon because a prior evaluation must be carried out in order to identify cavities, gum lesions or any other alteration that makes the application of the gel unfeasible.

Orofacial Harmonization

Facial aging is a consequence of multiple intrinsic and extrinsic factors that interact with each other, leading to volume loss and tissue remodeling.
While nothing can stop this progression, cosmetic procedures can help by preventing and improving the signs of aging. Mastery of facial proportions and anatomical structures involved in alterations in this region will allow for an accurate and individualized diagnosis.

Orofacial Harmonization concerns the set of procedures responsible for the aesthetic and functional balance of the face. The dentist has knowledge about the structures of the head and neck, so he can interfere in a conservative and safe way with the application of botulinum toxin and orofacial fillers, provided he has specific training and knowledge about their use.

Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and acts by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that acts on muscle contraction, causing a paralyzing effect and temporary weakening of muscle activity, reducing muscle tone (contraction), without any other effects. collateral. In Dentistry it has been used both for cosmetic purposes (temporary elimination of wrinkles and expression lines) and in cases of gummy smile (excessive exposure of the gums during smile) or smile asymmetry.

Fillers have the function of restoring volume in restricted areas, therefore, they are suitable for treating facial marks and loss of subcutaneous volume. The gold standard is currently hyaluronic acid, as it is more biocompatible and lasts longer on the skin, without being definitive. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and through cannulas, making the procedure safe, effective, reducing the risk of bruising. In dentistry it is mainly used for filling grooves and lip volumization. Hyaluronic acid fills the space between cells and, due to its ability to attract water to the place where it was applied, it improves not only wrinkles but also skin hydration.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cosmetic Dentistry

The application of botulinum toxin is contraindicated for pregnant and lactating patients, patients with hypersensitivity (allergy) to botulinum toxin, lactose and albumin, and patients with neuromuscular and autoimmune diseases.

Regarding fillers, patients with active autoimmune diseases, such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, pregnant and lactating women, patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation and with inflammation or infection at the site to be treated should not undergo these procedures.

The duration of botulinum toxin is variable and depends on several factors such as the patient, dose, affected muscles and expected action. The greater the muscle activity, the shorter the duration of the effect. Onset of action occurs 3 to 7 days after application, with maximum effect in 10 to 15 days. In general, the effect lasts between 4 and 6 months, requiring a new application to maintain the results.

Part of the effect of the fillers is already noticed on the day of application, however there is a gradual improvement over about 2 months. It varies from ten to 12 months, requiring a new application for maintenance.
